Hong Kong

Cosmopolitan City on the South China Sea

When making any list of the world’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities, Hong Kong has to be near the very top of the list. With an interesting mix of the old and new, Chinese and British, Hong Kong provides tourists with an experience unlike no other.

Located on the South China Sea, Hong Kong is technically a Special Administrative Region of China. Because of this, it has its very own distinct flair that is very different from what a visitor might find in other cities in China.

With a population of over seven million, it is known as one of the most densely populated places in the entire world, which is why it’s Mass Transit Railway system, Stary Ferry service and Hong Kong International Airport is so important for the visitors and residents.

Enjoy the View

One of the most iconic things about Hong Kong has to be it’s skyline. With so many skyscrapers and bright lights packed into a small area, coupled with the green mountain peaks behind, the lights reflecting on the water provides some spectacular imagery. In order to really take in the best view possible, head to Victoria Peak, the trip itself is worth it as visitors board a 120 year old railway to climb to the observation deck on the top of the peak. Naturally, sunset is one of the very best times to visit.

Sample Some of the Local Flavors

Of course one of the other fantastic things about Hong Kong is the food. There are so many different types of cuisines in Hong Kong that it is virtually impossible to enjoy them all during just one trip.

For the traditional, head to a local Tea House and enjoy some of the most amazing dim sum ever. Try Lin Heung for the old school China feel and be prepared to point at more than a few of the many options.

In order to try a selection of local delicacies the open air markets might be the best bet. Some of the most popular and delicious would include the Temple Street Market and the Ladies Market. Wander the food carts and stalls to find and sample some of the very best Hong Kong has to offer.
