Melhores hotéis em Budva

Montenegro has been described as the Pearl of the Adriatic, and when you visit gems like the beautiful coastal resort of Budva, it is difficult to disagree. The country’s tourism industry suffered in the 1990’s, following the tragedy of the civil war, but in recent times Montenegro has picked itself up from the rubble and risen to become a majestic city brimming with history, culture, and tradition. The upside is there are not many tourists. But that will change once the world hears about calm waters that lap the golden shores, together with rugged mountains and dense, green forests that provide jaw-dropping scenery around the glistening sea. Historical buildings dating as far back as the 7th century give you plenty of opportunity to explore the past, and with nearby islands, horseback rides in the forests, and ice caves providing daytrip escapes, there are many ways to explore nature and learn more about the relatively undiscovered beauty of Budva.

Location: An Adriatic haven

Montenegro is the most southerly part of former Yugoslavia, and Budva sits on the west coastline wedged between Bosnia and Serbia to the north and Albania to the south. The resort is well connected by road, and there are plenty of buses from Tivat International Airport, Podgorica, or Dubrovnik in neighbouring Croatia.

Culture: A turbulent history

For such a small seaside resort, Budva has a long and illustrious history, mainly thanks to its prime location on the Adriatic and the beauty of the surrounding area. The town’s past is somewhat turbulent, and has been conquered by several civilisations, but this has given rise to a blend of characteristic architecture and culture. Among the many interesting tourist attractions are the churches of St. John and Santa Marija of Punta, built in the 7th and 8th centuries respectively. The Citadela, the town’s medieval fortress, is also worth a visit if you have half a day to spare.
