Rhodes City: Classic and Contemporary Combine
Rhodes is a city that seamless combines the classic and the contemporary in a dramatic display of art and architecture. Some parts are modern and magnificent, while others are ancient and atmospheric; particularly impressive is the internationally renowned Colossus site, a monument so momentous that it is considered a wonder of the world. Whichever you prefer however, Rhodes is sure to satisfy and seduce with its alluring array of attractions; recline upon the golden sands of the nearby beaches or embark upon cultural excursions that lead to compelling medieval structures and crumbling Greek ruins. In classic Greek style, Rhodes offers an enticing culinary scene in which a rich culinary heritage is honoured.
An Outstanding Old Town
Undoubtedly Rhodes’ most compelling attraction, the atmospheric Old Town is considered one of the best preserved medieval myriads in the entirety of Europe. Majestic structures conjure images of duelling knights and damsels in distress with its antique avenues, cobbled streets and charismatic courtyards.
Another significant and slightly monument is the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, a building steeped in local legend and hedonistic history; demolished by gunpowder in the 18th century, the structure was renovated by Italians as a summer residence for Mussolini in 1940.
Archaeological Delights
As one of Europe’s most significant historical hubs, the Archaeological Museum in Rhodes City is a treasure trove of remarkable relics and ancient antiques. Immerse yourself in the island’s prosperous past as you peruse ceramics, pottery and weaponry that evoke an air from bygone days.
Grand Greek Gastronomy
For a gorgeous and gourmet experience of revered Greek cuisine, sample the sublime specialities of Tamam Restaurant. The magnificent menu pays homage to the island’s age old culinary tradition while also adding contemporary flair to classic dishes; sample lightly fried and lemon drizzled calamari and grilled halloumi to fulfil what critics call a food dream.
