Charming City

As the third largest city in Spain, Valencia still manages to hold on to much of the charm that made it one of the most visited and beloved in the country.

In recent years, the city of Valencia has been gaining in popularity, as it was recent hosts to the America’s Cup in 2007 and 2010, and has a large number of world known festivals each year.

The best way to reach Valencia is via the air, passengers land at the Valencia Airport. There is also a popular ferry route that arrives from Mallorca and Ibiza, as well as an established train system from both Madrid and Barcelona.

City of Arts and Science

In recent years, Valencia has been named the City of Arts and Science after the massive structure which was built by famed architects Felix Candela and Santiago Calatrava. For many, this structure has really come to symbolize the resurgence of Valencia has a major player in Spain, culturally, economically and for tourism.

Valencia helps to showcase it’s arts and sciences background by the number of great museums that are located there, some favorites include the Lladro Factory, the Fallas Museum, and the Valencian History Museum.

There are also a number of historic buildings in Valencia that are worth exploring during any vacation to the city, these include the Silk Exchange, Valencia Cathedral and the ancient Torres de Quart a medieval tower.

Fun Festivals

Valencia is also home to a number of different unique and very fun festivals that go on throughout the year. The biggest and most popular festival is held every year in March and brings in people from all over the world. Called Fallas, it is a city wide celebration that features fireworks, parades, bands and plenty of costumes.

Another festival that Valencia calls its own occurs every August and is called La Tomatina. This fest is more like one of the world’s biggest food fights, where everyone in town takes part in throwing thousands and thousands of pounds of tomatoes at each other. Be sure to bring an extra change of clothes!
