Badenweiler – Renowned Spa Resort on the Border Triangle

Badenweiler is the most South West situated spa resort in Baden-Wuerttemberg“ . It has around 4.000 inhabitants which are located 35 km away from and midway between the metropolises of Freiburg/Breisgau and Basel as well as around 5km east of Müllheim (Baden). The bathing resort is internationally recognised for its unique thermal springs and its touristic tradition which dates back to the early 19th Century.

Badenweiler – in the Heart of the Markgräflerland

You will reach Badenweiler by train via Müllheim (Baden), whose railway station is situated on the Karlsruhe-Basel route. By car, the A 5 (connecting point Müllheim/Neuenburg), provides you with the next long-distance transport connection. The next international airport is the Euro-Airport Basel/Mulhouse in France which is located approx. 45 minutes away.

Roman Thermal Baths and Medieval Castle Ruins

The most well-known attraction in Badenweiler are the Relikte der römischen Thermen „relics of the Roman thermal bath“, which are classified as the best preserved north of the Alps. The ruins that are protected today by a glass-steel construction, give you a good insight into the classical Roman bathing culture.

Burg Baden „Baden Castle“ which was first mentioned in 1122, was built in the medieval times by the Zähringern and since 1678, it has been seen as a romantic ruin. The Lustschlösschen Belvedere “pleasure palace Belvedere” from the 19th Century, is located beneath the castle remains.

Music and Drama in an Elegant Setting

The internationally renowned Römerbad-Musiktage is a festival of avant-garde music. There are even regular Musikdarbietungen „music performances“ in the ruin of the baths in the Pauluskirche during the summer season.

In the former Großherzoglichen Palais “Grand Ducal Palace”, alternating art exhibitions take place.

The Freiburger Wallgraben-Theater gives guest performances in the spa building.
