In a quiet and
relaxed atmosphere, you discover the Katharine square in Brussels, on which you will find not only
the church, but also one of the oldest markets of Brussels – “Le Marché aux
Poissons”. Here, you can try (organic) food, fish and seafood on the spot or take
away.
Many renowned restaurants are located in this area providing not only known fish classics but also
a real Brussels delicacy: mussels with French fries.
From the Katharine square it goes towards the city port, passing the Quai aux Briques and Quai au
Bois a Bruler. Due to its cosy atmosphere a lovely place to stroll and jog.

„La Monnaie“, the
Royal Opera House in Brussels is the seat of the City Ballet. Thanks to the efforts of Gérard
Mortier and Bernard Foccroulle and music director Sylvain Cambreling and Antonio Pappano the Opera
House could again reach the splendour of bygone days. Today the Opera House is one of the most
prestigious in Europe.

The Cathedral of
Brussels, also known as St. Michael and St. Gudula, is an imposing Gothic structure on the place
Saint Gudule. Inside, the complex decorated Baroque pulpit is a real eye catcher, made by the
sculptor Henri-François Verbruggen. Also worth seeing are the windows decorated in a sixteenth
century style, depicting the last judgment. The portraits of the various kings and emperors can be
admired in the North chapel on the left side.
As a national church, is the Cathedral often the scene of Royal Weddings, state funerals and
similar ceremonies.

The Warande park or
also Parc de Bruxelles is the largest park in the city with its rectangular area of 13 ha. Nearby
The Royal Palace, the Belgian Parliament and the American Embassy are located. The park is created
in 1775 on the Koudenberg Hill, on which the ruins of the castle of the Dukes of Brabant (better
known as “The old Palace” or “Burned Palace”) stood. The park was designed
in the neo-classical, geometric style of Gilles Barnabé Guimard and Joachim Zinner. The main
entrance is located on the north side, opposite the Belgian Parliament. The paths that cross the
park, are based on three promenades.
