The railway station district of Frankfurt has a mixed reputation. But isn’t it always better to form
your own opinion and experience the district between Bankentürmen and the main station yourself?
So get into „the groove“
Some people just want to experience a town by breathing in the air, watching the people and taking in
all the smells.
And there are others who prefer to go to a museum, or take part in a guided tour to have these
perceptions and impressions explained. For them, one of the City events offered as an introduction is
the right choice.
For 11 euros you can participate in the 1.5 – 2 hour tour of the Bahnhofsviertel. Learn the
background to the history of the area, why it had such a notorious name and how it developed into
today’s tolerant and trendy area.
If this tour is too ordinary for you, there is a Red Light tour available which will give you more
insight into the everyday life of the district and the people who work here. This tour lasts 3 hours
and begins at midnight and costs 69.00 euros. However, this includes a visit to the striptease –
and Tabledanceclub, as well as drinks and a curry sausage. A friend of mine has recently done this
tour in Frankfurt and was very impressed, surprised, and perhaps shocked, but very interested to find
out more.
Culinary-sin Tour
The tour gives you an opportunity to experience the different culinary aromas of the various nations
that live in this neighborhood, and the extraordinary dishes that can be enjoyed. Most of the shops
and businesses are managed by the owner and offer authentic delicacies. The culinary tour costs 24
euros and lasts nearly two hours.
It also creates a wonderful transition into an evening at the railway station district. Of course it
is also a notorius area and I don‘t always feel safe alone at night, but it is exciting, interesting,
never boring and every week offers a newly opened bar or restaurant I would like to try out.

It is the only
Supper Club in Frankfurt, as far as I know. They not only regularly change the menus, but also the
chefs. It is necessary to become a member and receive the newsletter. In this way you miss none of
the 3 course menu‘s on Thursdays, creative à la carte dinners with different themes on Fridays,
and vegetarian life savers on Saturdays.
I can still remember my first evening at Club Michel. It took a while to find the doorbell and I
got straight into a conversation on the way to the first floor. The stairs were full of candles
and I felt as if I was invited to a big party. I immediately noticed the long tables with the
bottled water and fresh flowers in vintage vases .
Every course was announced by a gong, and then described. When dessert was served, it felt like
we were dining with friends, although we had only eaten 3 courses with our table neighbors and
shared some table water.

As soon as the
store opened in the district it drew fans of the famous pastrami sandwiches. But there are also
many other delicious things available on the menu.

My memories of my
first dinner here are as if it was yesterday. There are so many goodies on the card that it is my
recommendation to select everything that sounds great, and put it in the middle of the table to
share. The drinks are fantastic and another reason to sit at the bar while you wait for your
table.

The Restaurant of
the 25 Hour Hotel does not only serve steaks from the hot stone, the burger bar is terrific, just
like the live nights on Friday and the roof top terrace in summer. You have to book in advance,
but this is generally a must in Frankfurt.
An evening at the railway station district certainly requires a broad minded approach, whether with
or without a tour, but it‘s always worth the experience – promised.
