Evaluations of Wittelsbach
old decoration, and not so clean
The staff alone is the reason to overnight at this hotel! One staff member in particular--Franz--was a gem. He was very outgoing, unfailingly courteous, and provided any and all assistance possible. For example, our initial booking was for two nights only. However, after the second night, my partner needed medical attention, and we needed to book for another two nights. Not only did Franz help us find a doctor, but he went out of his way to make sure that our additional nights were in the same room. That level of kind service really impressed us. The general manager, too, was very helpful--and funny. He took time out of his workday to figure out problems with our Internet connectivity--problems of our own making, not the hotel's. His humor while helping us still makes us smile. The room was very clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. The mattresses were firm but not rock hard. Having a balcony with a view of the mountains made it a bit grand as well. Better yet, there was plenty of closet and drawer space. The hotel's central location, too, made everything convenient, and across the street, there is the marvelous Cafe Grassl, which provided for three very nice afternoons of coffee and cake. Also, the laundromat next door came in very handy. The breakfast room on the third floor was spacious and provided a good start to the day. There is no doubt in our minds that any return to Berchtesgaden will be enjoyed with more nights at the Hotel Wittelsbach.
The only thing about the room which might prove unwelcome to some is that it overlooks a main street from which the traffic noise is easily heard when the window is open. Also, the hotel is only about two or three buildings away from a bar/club, and any rowdiness there can also be heard through an open window. Light sleepers may prefer rooms on the back side of the hotel.
Hotel was very nice and staff were very friendly.
The following points in the hotel description are either wrong or misleading: 1) there is no minibar 2) there is no restaurant and no bistro. Only breakfast is available 3) The distance to train station may be 0.5km as the crow flies, but this is very misleading. People don't fly. By taxi it takes about 7 - 10 minutes to the station. If on foot, one were to walk downhill from the hotel, it would take a person 10 minutes. The way back is an uphill trek of about 15-20 minutes, and we were forced to use it with our baby buggy :-(
What a great hotel! We have stayed in many across Germany in the last 10 years and truly enjoyed our stay here. Located right in the heart of town and an easy walk to dining and shopping! I would reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, quiet place to stay.
nice clean room, perfect view on the mountains from the balcony. Friendly staff, close to the centre and a good variety of food for breakfast.
Large room with balcony & mountain view. Manager not effusive but helpful when approached and promptly replaced blown light bulbs. Central location with great views from the 3rd floor breakfast room.
Very dated decor in need of attention. On main road with poor sound insulation (lots of traffic and one could hear other people through the wall)Breakfast selection was small and bland and of mediocre quality. The fridge in our room was not plugged in and we had to move furniture & tv cables around ourselves in order to get it plugged in, despite the manager and cleaner being in our room! Needless to say the ´´minibar´´ wasn't stocked. No hotel information provided - so was surprised to learn after our stay that there was a solarium and a bar/restaurant - where??! It cost 5 euros per night to park - which was not previously advertised and an unwelcome surprise, especially since the ´´car park´´ was only 5 spaces up a narrow alley! Internet access was not free and accessed via a card which had to be paid for........
Very nice and friendly.
The hotel is a little bit old.
