Evaluations of Ameritania Hotel
Good location - easy walk to Times Square but not too close to be annoying. All necessary subway stations are an easy walk. Door-men are friendly and recognised us after a few days and said hello. Decoration of room is modern and fresh. Hotel has been renovated and is neat and clean but parts of it could use some TLC and it would improve the overall fell immensely eg. new carpet has been laid but the messy edges take away from the 'newness' of the carpet.
Air conditioning turns on and off all night long - unable to keep fan running to at least maintain a consistent 'noise'. Cleaners were not doing a good job until we realised they were unhappy with our tipping. Once we increased the tip, the service improved. Our windows didn't shut properly or lock at all. It was a bit offputting at first but in the end didn't bother us. The safe was just in the bottom of the cupboard and not bolted in at all. Not much point using it if someone can simply pick it up and walk away with it, but we still used it and it was ok.
Stayed there for 19 nights (holiday). Great location near Times Square (without being too close) but also a short walk to Central Park and a variety of subway stations (ACE, 123, NRQ all close by). Rooms were recently refurbished and very trendy.
Rooms were quite small, although in NYC you don't have much reason to be in the room for an extended period. Cleaning initially was lacklustre but improved dramatically when we increased our daily tip... The aircon unit turned on for probably 40 seconds at a time and would then turn off again. It made a huge noise, so the constant on and off during the night was very off-putting. The windows could not be locked and one of them sat constantly ajar. Not a big issue on the 8th floor, but still a little concerning. The safe was just sitting looseley on the floor of the cupboard and could easily have been picked up and taken away (wasn't very heavy at all). Wireless internet was USD11 per day!!!
