Jerusalem

A Holy City in the Middle East

Jerusalem has a long history that has been the centerpiece of much of the world’s religious peoples. Because of that, the city makes for an incredibly fascinating, and historical, spot to spend some time in and visit.

Within the country of Israel, Jerusalem is located on the border of the West Bank, approximately located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea, both of which are popular spots in the area.

There is no airport in Jerusalem itself, as most visitors will arrive via air in nearby Tel Aviv. There are, however, a number of transportation options to get to Jerusalem which arrive at the Jerusalem Central Bus Station. High speed rail is currently in the works.

Many Religious Sites

The biggest draw for many visitors to Jerusalem is due to the various important religious sites that are dotted in and around the city. Having been around for at least a few thousand years, the city has many different sites that have been well preserved through the centuries and showcase a fantastic blend between the new and the old.

Some of the most famous and visited of the religious sites in Jerusalem would include the Western Wall or Kotel, the Temple Mount, the al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Each of these sites are very important to a number of religions, and many visitors to these sites will be pilgrims who are interested in voyaging to these areas.

Plenty of Music and Cultural Sites

Being a large and thriving city with plenty of visitors, Jerusalem offers visitors a number of different cultural sites and experiences to enjoy as well. The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Palestinian National theatre are two of the best attractions for enjoying some of the local cultural music and theatre events that are active nightly.

For those who are interested in exploring other areas of the city, head to the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, a local favorite with residents. Or, for a bit of exercise, explore the Jerusalem Trail, a 24 mile hiking trail that winds along many of the most popular national parks and cultural sites in the city.
