From copenhagen by s-train towardsfrederikssund to oelstykke and from there by bus600s towards hilleroed.Skalm hvide was a north zealand nobleman who hadlarge landed properties on several locations innorth zealand way back in svend estridsens timearound 1100. He was the founder of the stronghvide family which included powerful men such asasser rig- esbern snare and absalon. Joerlundekirke is one of the oldest churches on zealand andit was built at skjalm hvides orders.The family-run skjalm hvide hotel is situated inthe village street in joerlunde a stone throw fromthe church and naturally the name refers to thebuilder of the church. The family willadsen boughtthe hotel in 1981. Since then they have extendedthe hotel with more rooms and a restaurant. In1994 the hotel acquired the castle which is apatrician villa from 1991 right beside the hoteland it was converted into banqueting- conferencerooms- a bridal suite and a tower room on thefirst floor.Today the hotel is run by the 2nd generationnamely mette and bo willadsen. In their restaurantrestaurant skjalm the menu card consists of homelyfare from monday to thursday in the form of gooddanish food of a high quality. It is also possibleto have a danmenu composed of the homely fare plusa dessert or a first course. On fridays andsaturdays the restaurant has a 3-course menudepending on the ingredients of the season and thechefs creativity. The whole week there is an a lacarte menu with courses from the danish-frenchcuisine.It only takes 40 minutes by car to the centre ofcopenhagen.
