Hotel Villa Clementina in Navarre has succeeded in restoring the splendour of the modernist era in this beautiful, 19th century casa de indiano, or colonial-style house. The luxury hotel revives aesthetic, creative and refined spirit of the fin de siècle, combining aspects of that period with contemporary concepts of design and comfort. Girded by 3,000 square meters of landscaped gardens, Hotel Villa Clementina was first conceived with the aim of becoming "the most beautiful house in the world" in the words of its developer, Stephen Ancil, back in 1888. After decades of silence, the fifth generation composed by Fernando, Juan and Maria Oíza Redín decided to recover the building, renovate it, and convert it into the hotel it is today. In its 9 private rooms, the balance between materials, space and light becomes apparent in a subtle yet palpable way. Each room is unique, though all feature a common point of union between the sleeping area and the bathroom as if an invisible path beckoned between the pleasures of bathing and sleeping—enticing guests to enjoy moments of relaxation and pleasure with no doors, no limits. Surrounded by gardens, Villa Clementina strikes a harmonious balance between outdoor and indoor spaces through superbly planned landscaping, where a British-style garden has also been painstakingly restored.
