The Casale is located in Bastia Umbra, a town dating back to the 11th century: it was once called ‘Insula romana’ (Roman island) due to the numerous floods of the nearby Chiascio river that made the entire territory look like an island. During the Middle Ages, its fate was tightly linked to the events that tied Assisi and Perugia: following a violent clash between the two cities, the village was completely devastated and its fortifications destroyed. The name Bastia was given when the fortified walls, the military ramparts and the castle with its great towers (the Bastions, or ‘Bastioni’ in Italian) were rebuilt. The Casale is just a stone’s throw from Umbria’s most important historical centers and sights. The flat countryside is ideal for long walks and bike rides, a lovely way to retrace the route followed by the millions of pilgrims who have been traveling to Assisi since the time of Saint Francis, while taking in the beautiful country farming scenes. If you like mountain views and love to hike, we can suggest some wonderful excursions on Mount Subasio.Our resort is strategically placed, allowing our guests to venture out, explore their surroundings and discover the many beautiful sights our country has to offer. The Casale is in the heart of Umbria, in the town of Bastia Umbra (province of Perugia), in the small locality of Bastiola. We are in the Subasio valley, near Assisi, the town that gave birth to Saint Francis and Saint Chiara. The Casale is completely surrounded by nature, yet it is easily accessible: the Sant’Egidio International Airport is approximately 5 Km away and the Umbriafiere convention center is a only 1500 meters away. We offer 10 suites: Ground floor: 4 two-room suites (2+2) composed of: sitting room with kitchenette, pull-out couch, bathroom and double or twin bedroom.
