The ‘Ritsou’ boat awaits at the southern end of Lakonia to take you on a dream-filled journey, which will take you back in time so that you can experience the history of the region. Monemvasia is one of the most beautiful places of Peloponissos and the landmark of Lakonia. The rock of Monemvasia is located 95 kilometers southeast of Sparta and is one of the most popular destinations of Peloponissos. It is connected to the mainland by a thin strip of land and it is said that this is where it got its name (‘Moni’ and ‘Emvasis’) which in greek mean passable only thru one entrance (the thin strip of land which connects the pillar to the east coast of Lakonia). The famous ‘castle city’ was founded during the byzantine period and was one of the most important castles of Peloponissos. The stone houses, the noble manors, the byzantine churches and the imposing forts, are greatly admired by the visitor.
