IN1923 THE PROPERTY WAS PURCHASED AS A BOARDINGHOUSE FOR WOMEN AND RENAMED THE ELMS. DURING THE1940 THEN OWNER RICHARD PAIGE LEASED THE PROPERTYTO THE US ARMY AS A POST FOR SOLDIERS EN ROUTE FORTRAINING. THE PUBLICK HOUSE DURING THIS TIME MOVEDACROSS THE COMMON TO A LARGE WHITE HOUSE. NOT ONEDAY HAS BEEN MISSED IN PROVIDING GOOD HOSPITALITYIN OVER 230 YEARS.SINCE 1771 PUBLICK HOUSE INN HAS BEEN THE LODGINGAND DINING HUB FOR ESTEEMED VISITORS FROM GEORGEWASHINGTON BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND GENERAL LAFAYETTETO PRESENT DAY TRAVELERS SUCH AS ACTORS BILLMURRAY SUSAN ST.
