The Hildesheimer Dom „Hildesheimer Cathedral“ which was built as early as the year 872, is considered to be the landmark of the city. The buildings and the artistic treasures of the Hildesheimer Dom, have constituted aUNESCO World-Heritage Site since 1985. In the years 2010-2014, the city invested large sums of money into the extensive renovation of the cathedral and its neighbouring buildings.
If you want to enjoy a fantastic view over Hildesheim and the surrounding area, it is recommended that you go visit the Bismarckturmes “Bismarck Tower” which was built in 1905. The observation tower which is over 200 meters high, is located to the East of the city in Galgenberg.
If you want to find out more about the history of Hildesheim, you should pay a visit to the Stadtgeschichtlichen Museum. A variety of exhibitions will shine a light on the different epochs in the development of the city´s history.
The Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum will win you over with its diverse ancient Egyptian collection and the excellent reputation that it enjoys on a worldwide scale. Furthermore, you can marvel at several ethnological and scientific objects here that originate from the most diverse cultures.
