Erfurt, the capital of the state Thuringia, looks back upon a longstanding history, which even now still characterises the townscape. The outline of the city is marked by the Erfurt cathedral Mariendom and the church Severikirche. Once a year the cultural event festival at the cathedral, the Domfestspiele, takes place. We recommend you to visit the well-preserved mediaeval historic city with its cosy restaurants, the Krämerbrücke, a bridge north of the Alpes, the citadel Petersbergzitadelle, the 40 ha / 100 acres garden and amusement park Egapark, the Erfurt green and the church Barfüßerkirche, belonging to the former Franciscan convent.
Erfurt is located near the crossing of the autobahns A4, A9 and A71 and is easily accessible by car or with public transportation. The airport and the connection to several ICE and other trains contribute to the accessibility of the town. Public transportation is well constructed and consists of 6 city train lines and 25 bus lines.
Numerous of the Erfurt hotels are located in the city centre. The “Hotel Mercure Grand”, which is only 0.5 km / 0.3 miles away from the city centre, invites you to stay there. We can also recommend the “Radisson SAS Hotel” and, in close proximity to the pedestrian area, the “Hotel Mercure Altstadt”. Another hotel in the city centre would be the “Sorat Hotel”.
For a stay near the airport we recommend the “Airport Hotel”, which is 8 km / 5 miles away from the city centre. If you are looking for historic flair, you should book into the “Hotel Am Kaisersaal” and the “Hotel Weißer Schwan”, both located in the centre of the city. For a hotel in quiet surroundings, you may choose the “Hotel Carat”, from which it will take 5-10 minutes with public transportation to reach the city centre.
