Whoever thinks of Emden and still does not know the town, will initially have to grin. And in actual fact, the town sparkles with a carefree maritime atmosphere owing to its 150 canals and the historical seaport.
No matter whether you travel by car or by train, regarding transport connections, Emden is easy to reach. The town is situated directly on the A 31 and it is connected to the Deutsche Bahn InterCity route networks. From the nearest located airport which is Bremen Airport, the car journey takes 1.5 hours and by train you should factor in a journey time of about more than 2 hours.
The Emder Rathaus „Emder Town Hall“, is considered to be the landmark of the town and today it houses the Ostfriesische Landesmuseum. It was, as with the rest of the old town, completely destroyed during the war.

Emden proudly describes Otto Waalkes as the "the greatest son of this town" and it has even dedicated a house to him, "Dat Otto Huus".
