Not to be Missed, Cologne Offers Plenty to Visitors

Though other cities such as Berlin and Munich might be more popular tourist destinations, the German city of Cologne has plenty to offer to anyone who is looking to visit.

As the fourth largest city in Germany, Cologne is situated right on the Rhine River near the western border of the country. Less than three hours from both Amsterdam and Brussels and easily accessible via rail, Cologne is a perfect destination for a long weekend or mini holiday in Europe.

Even though it was practically destroyed during World War II, it offers an incredible amount of history and vibrancy to its visitors.

Old Town, Rhine Tours and Chocolate

Of the many activities any visitor to Cologne can do, there are a few that really stand out as fun and unique. One of the more popular is a Rhine River tour. Since the river cuts the city in half, there are spectacular views to be had whilst floating down the Rhine of the city skyline, rolling fields and even a few castles.

Another big attraction is the famous Schokolade or Chocolate Museum. What visitor wouldn’t want to spend an afternoon learning about the history of chocolate and enjoying a few tastings?

After getting a full of chocolate, head over to the Old Town area of Cologne. This area has been meticulously preserved and restored to give that old German look and feel. It can bring visitors back in time to what the area might have looked like before the war took a toll on the city.

Grab a Local Brew

Another famous product from Cologne is the locally brewed Kolsch beer. There are many different traditional style halls that serve delicious options for both those who are looking to try the local brew as well as food. Some good examples of area favorites would be Sünner im Walfisch and Bei Oma Kleinmann, both locals and visitors really enjoy these spots for a traditional German meal and beverage.
