With plenty of sun, sand and nightlife, Cancun has quite a bit to offer visitors who are there on vacation as well as those who are stopping by on one of the cruise ship stops.
In order to reach Cancun, most visitors arrive via air through the Cancun International Airport. Since Cancun is very popular on the cruise ship circuit as well, many travelers will also have a day to spend there as well on most itineraries.
Sun and Sand
First and foremost, Cancun is popular with so many travelers for the sun and sand. Located on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula that juts out into the Gulf of Mexico, Cancun enjoys beautiful weather year round, which is why so many visitors love it. Of course the beaches and resorts of Cancun are a very big draw.
For those who are interested in some of the prettiest beaches in the area, make a trip over to the Playa Delfines Beach and Playa Las Perlas. These two beaches will give travelers not only amazing photos, but they feature miles of perfectly white sandy beaches, thatched umbrellas and tranquil waters.
A Little History
After a few days laying on the beach, some travelers are interested in checking out a few other activities. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, before the arrival of Europeans to the area, by the Maya civilization. There are still quite a bit of ruins located in and around Cancun that provide a wonderful break from the ocean and a fascinating piece of history as well.
In Cancun, visitors can learn quite a bit of history by traveling just a little bit out of the city to some of the amazing Mayan ruins. There are many travel tours that run from city center and go to El Rey and El Meco, very popular archaeological sites, as well as Coba.
