Calella: A Tale of Two Towns

Calella is a sublime Spanish seaside town than seamlessly combines the classic and the contemporary with its modern and medieval quarters. The fortifying juxtaposition of the ancient charm, modern convenience and coastal splendour allures thousands of Spanish and foreign tourists wishing to escape the metropolitan folly of busy cities. As the capital of the magnificent Costa Maresme, the town has a vibrant and energetic atmosphere that pulsates primarily from the bars and beaches of the area.

Blissful Beaches and Respiratory Respites

Soak up the sumptuous Spanish sun on one of the town’s glorious beaches; golden sands and azure waters decorate the curving crescent of coastline which consists of 3km of beach. Garbi and Les Roques are secondary beaches that attract fewer tourists and guaranteed sun-drenched serenity.

Escape the beach side bustle with a verdant visit to the Parc Dalmau de Calella, a bright and bounteous space in which towering trees complement refreshing fountains and ornate stone staircases. Gorgeous ocean views can be enjoyed from its hilltop perch before returning to the OLD Town for a slice of Spanish culture.

Classical Culture

For a refreshing breath of authentic Spanish culture, visit the town’s charming Old Quarter to wander amongst Baroque beauties and ancient houses; the Church of Santa Maria is a beautiful vision enshrouded in rich external decoration and air of ethereal elegance.

In the Municipal Market, visitors can enjoy the colourful displays of rich Spanish produce being sold amongst local inhabitants.

Tempting Tapas

The regional flair and creative innovation at El Hogar Gallego is unrivalled amidst the culinary offerings of Callelo; passed down through the generations, the sophisticated and sumptuous establishment is critically acclaimed for its outstanding tapas and sublime seafood. Tasting menus feature tuna tartar, sautéed prawns and steamed mussels and deliver a delectable taste of the salty sea. (Carrer de les Ànimes, 73 - 75, 08370 Calella)
