October 2016

I stayed at this beautiful castle on a Thursday night. The owner's son was waiting for me and greeted me by name. He personally escorted me around the hotel and made me so welcome. The dinner and wine was delicious! My room was spotlessly clean and decorated very beautifully. I had a little balcony with a gorgeous view of the hillside. The castle itself and its museum are stunning with very important pieces and documents. The atmosphere cannot be beat. The owner, Maria, and her son, as well as other staff member, Maria, treated me like their daughter and even invited me into the castle kitchen to join them in a glass of wine. Of all the castles I stayed at on my trip this past week, this one beats them all! Thank you everyone at Burg Arras for making my last day in Germany the BEST one!

I LOVED it all !!!

August 2016

My wife and I stayed at Burg Arras August 28 & 29, 2016. I wouldn’t stay at Burg Arras again or recommend it as a hotel. If you’re going to visit Burg Arras, stay in a hotel in or near Alf, Germany and make a day visit to Burg Arras. I found Burg Arras to be quaint and charming with lots of character. On a very positive note, the food, food service, and wine were excellent. Authentic German dishes were featured. The property provides impressive views of the surrounding countryside. It is clearly worth a day visit by travelers to the Mosel River and Alf, Germany region. I expected to find a fortified castle. What remains of the fortified castle are thick stonewalls, an extensive courtyard, hiking trails, associated housing, and a tall stone tower.

1. The lone access road to the property is steep, with tight blind curves, and far too many potholes. It needs repair. 2. There is limited parking on top near the castle and hotel. There is a maximum of five or six parking places at the hotel summit. The hotel recommends that visitors park at a roadside pull off area about 2/3s of the way to the top leaving guests a grueling baggage transport to the hotel. There is no baggage assistance or baggage cart for guest use. I was lucky as I made it to the top in a car and found a parking spot. Guest rooms are on the hotel second floor and baggage must be carried up a long curved flight of stairs. There is no elevator. 3. The hotel staff communicates in German only. Hotel English language capability is poor, at best. 4. The hotel has no Internet access and offers no LAN or wireless service. You must call the hotel to contact them. There is good mobile phone reception in the courtyard area. 5. The hotel accepts payment in cash only and accepts no credit cards.

The castle is well maintained and interesting history (with Museum). The Hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating (we arrived later than expected and at Restaurant closing time but still were able to order off menu and get a hot meal). Wonderful scenery to enjoy from various rooms for relaxing

Outdoor eating area closed due to rain as not covered
