The hotel originally dates back to 1826, but was extensively rebuilt in 1912 to cater for passengers from large cruise liners, whose home port was Liverpool. Namely all the White Star Line ships, who were based in Liverpool, the most famous of which was the Titanic. Indeed the Sefton suite in the hotel is an exact replica of the Smoking Lounge aboard the Titanic.

Good location

If you like staying in 1960's style boarding houses, love hard grey towels and dubious cleanliness - this is for you. Only for the desperate.

Sorry but there is nothing positive to say about this hotel

I was under the impression from this site that if I requested a parking space it would be available - this was not the case and I found the only option was to wander around the 7th floor of an NCP carpark at midnight looking for a security guard who could help me. As a single female I found this unacceptable that a warning about parking availability was not given. The common parts of the hotel are awful, smelly and dirty. The corridors smell of stale cooked food and the bathroom in my room was not acceptably clean ... years of unwiped grime and water marks on the tiling around the bath. during my stay there was no maid service so my room remained uncleaned. I hope I never have the misfortune of having to stay in this hotel again and will make a point of warning friends and colleagues not to do the same. Thank you for giving the opportunity to express my opinions.

The hotel is mentioned as a 4 star hotel, but i reality it is a 3 star hotel. The best times of the hotel are gone (a long time ago) Wireless is only available at Loby and it is not working porperly.

Crompton's Restaurant was nice

first room we were given, window couldn't be looked, radiator couldn't be turned off, bed about 100 years old, never saw anything like the shower, it was like something from the dark ages, second room was a little better but not a lot

The english breakfast was very good. The salon next to the main lounge is beautiful and a good place to read or work. The location of the hotel is ideal.

There was no lightbulb in one of the lamps in my room. I complained at the reception, but the lamp still remained without bulb.
