The Fun and Frivolity of Bietigheim-Bissingen

The quaint and traditional town of Bietigheim-Bissingen enjoys a picturesque position upon the banks of the River Metter; the pointed, terracotta roofs of historical houses complement the lush greenery that decorates the town. Famed for its industrial heritage, the town still celebrates its mechanical past with monuments and breath-taking structures.

The Venerated Valley Viaduct

The town’s most alluring attraction is undoubtedly the Bietigheim Enz Valley Viaduct, a remarkable railway bridge that straddles the verdant Ernz Valley. This iconic landmark features impressive arches and towering columns, and was constructed by the revered German architect Karl Etzel.

Other sites that are testament to the town’s historical heritage is the commanding Castle of Bietigheim, an impressive and imposing structure steeped in intriguing history. Like many of the town’s buildings, these are examples of architecture that echo the town’s bygone prosperity.

Frothy Festivities

Every September, beneath the attractive arches of the Bietigheim Enz Valley Viaduct, the Bietigheim Horse Market bursts into life. Here, exhilarating horse riding demonstrations occur beside frivolous firework displays and kaleidoscopic fun fairs. Hundreds of thousands of revellers unite to enjoy locally brewed German beer and rich cultural traditions; train-spotters are amongst the thousands attracted due to the rare opportunity of photographing trains from a unique artistic perspective.

A Taste of Germany

Treat your taste buds to the traditional taste of German cuisine at the warm, welcoming and wonderful Rommelmuhle Gastonomie. The multi-faceted eatery features a refined restaurant, brewery and verdant beer garden in which a number of authentic culinary classics can be enjoyed; sample the rich flavour of a traditional beef broth with chives and dumplings, or feast upon hearty choices such as meatloaf with fried eggs, crispy bacon and caramelised onions.(Flößerstraße 60, 74321 Bietigheim-Bissingen)
