The town’s historical market square is a cultural treasure chest brimming with architectural jewels and historical wealth; proud and postured timber framed buildings create a picturesque perimeter steeped in local legend. The Town Hall, Heinz’sche Haus and the Pointed House are all arresting sights that display elaborate embellishments and ancient wooden beams. Looming over Bernkastel’s verdant horizon are the remarkable ruins of Landshut Castle, an imposing structure that dates back to the 9th century. Ascension of the rugged hilltop affords climber breath-taking views of the magnificent Moselle Valley and sparkling river.
