Malente-Gremsmühlen is an established Kneipp spa in the heart of Holstein Switzerland. The idyllic town lies nestled between the Diek and Kellersee in a densely wooded hilly landscape. There is no scenery which, as written by the poet Dichter Johann Heinrich Voß „is more sweet to the eye and more fruitful for the heart of good witted people speaks as ours“.
Bad Malente can be reached by car from Hamburg with the A1 via Lübeck. The A-Road 76 leads from both Lübeck as well as Kiel to the edge of town and then it travels further with a B-Road to the heart of the town. With the train from Kiel or Lübeck, you can get directly into the centre between the lake and the Kurpark “spa gardens”.
Hiking routes lead directly around the Dieksee to the quaint Fishing Village Niederkleevez or to Timmdorf.
A must-do attraction is the 5-Seen-Fahrt „Five-Lake Tour“ with the excursion boat from Malente and a visit to the Tews-Kate. It is in the oldest smokehouse in Ostholstein, where the Heimatmuseum, „Museum of Local History“, is housed.
The Kurpark von Malente is magical and in 2009 it was awarded the second most beautiful spa garden in Germanyder 2009.
In summer in the Kurpark, classical concerts take place and the Kneippfestival there, inspires a health-conscious audience all-year round with talks, film screenings and musical delights.
The Immenhof-Museum is popular with both young and old alike and it is reminiscent of the successful television production in the 1950´s. The typical Holstein property estate, Gutsanwesen, is directly situated in Malente.
A secret tip is the Landgasthof Kasch in Timmdorf. The restaurant gains points for its Holsteiner cuisine, fresh trout dishes as well as home-made cakes and tarts. The meat for the preparation of delicate meat dishes comes from their own Galloway breed of cow. Above all, it is the value-for-money and the peaceful surroundings that will win you over.
