This highly rated Welsh country house hotel, close to the English border, is famous for its splendid hospitality and spectacular views across the Berwyn Mountains, forests and the beautiful, tranquil Lake Vyrnwy. Located within the 24,000 acre Vyrnwy estate, the hotel provides endless opportunities for outdoor activities, including Birdwatching, Abseiling, Archery, Canoeing, Clay Shooting, Cycling, Falconry, Fly-Fishing, Orienteering, Quad Trekking, Rowing, Rock Climbing, Tennis The Vyrnwy Challenge, Walking and mapped Nature Trails, White Water Rafting, 4 wheel driving and Pheasant Shooting. The estate is ideal for Horse Riding and livery is available for guests wanting to bring their own Horses. Kennels for dogs are also available. Lake Vyrnwy enjoys a reputation for excellent cuisine and the AA has awarded the restaurant with 2 rosettes of distinction. The 24,000 estate provides the hotel with the most wonderful fresh ingredients including game, lamb and fish. Everything from the marmalade to the petits fours at dinner is created in the Vyrnwy kitchens. None of the food is genetically modified. The restaurant overlooks the Lake and operates a no smoking policy. Originally built in 1860, the hotel's 35 bedrooms are all individually furnished and decorated, many with antiques and special features such as Jacuzzi baths, four poster beds, balconies and suites with delightful views. This country house hotel has cosy lounges with log fires burning in the winter and offers decadent afternoon teas overlooking the Lake. There is also a charming country pub, serving snacks and real ales and the more formal cocktail bar. Conference suite for 120 people with private terrace and helipad. From Motorway - The M54 motorway westbound becomes the A5 at Telford. Follow the A5 around Shrewsbury and take the A458 signposted to Welshpool. After a few miles, just after Ford, turn right onto the B4393. Follow the brown tourist signs for Lake Vyrnwy until you reach the Lake. The hotel driveway is on the right hand side. From Airport - From Birmingham Airport, follow the M42 northbound. Follow the M6 northbound and then the M54 signposted to Telford. The M54 motorway westbound becomes the A5 at Telford. Follow the A5 around Shrewsbury and take the A458 signposted to Welshpool. After a few miles, just after Ford, turn right onto the B4393. Follow the brown tourist signs for Lake Vyrnwy until you reach the Lake. The hotel driveway is on the right hand side. The award-winning restaurant has a delightful enviroment with lake views. The atmosphere is light and airy by day, cosy and elegant at night. The restaurant operates a no smoking policy. The dress code is smart casual. Alternatively, enjoy a light brasserie style menu in a country pub in the hotel grounds which offers al fresco dining in the summer on the terrace overlooking the lake or by the log fires in winter.
