The Hotel wants to be a Grand Hotel with the charme of a 19th century Palace - but it is just a old, stinky Hotel. The architecture is really great, the furniture antique/ but nothing is in good condition. The rooms a awefull dirty, the cleaning man an old scruffy, strange looking man, who thinks wet means clean. The bathroom is a disaster, the showers courtain full of dust or fungus, the courtains are grey and jellow, the air condition system nothing but a bad joke. The beds a really old, the walls are as greasy as the fridge. The breakfast - nice croissant, bad juice, no eggs, bad coffee no milk, no spoons, dirty cups, dirty table, dirty room, as fruits: one half opend banana and a green orange for two persons. The worst Hotel i know in Egypt - and as an Egyptologist i know a lot.

The only plus is the saloon which is pleasant.

This hotel is certainly not a 3 star. The carpet is old and need cleaning. The ceiling on my room had stain of water seeping to the coving and to the wall.

If you remember this is a budget hotel it is an excellant choice. The rooms may be a bit shabby but are extremely clean and the staff was very cordial and helpful. The breakfast is minimal but you can add eggs for a small amount more. You're in Cairo so it's bound to be noisy but it quiets down in the night and is very quiet by morning. I would stay at this hotel again in a minute. It is about a 30 minuite walk to the Khan al Kahlili, if you enjoy old world shopping.

A reasonably priced hotel a world away from the international hotels along the river front. It has heritage, charm and a nice bar to relax in away from the craziness of the city. The friendly helpful staff were able to organise a trip to the pyramids for us which was very enjoyable. We had a problem during our stay and the hotel staff gave us invaluable help and advice.

The rooms we had were basic but more than adequate for our needs. The air conditioning was effective but noisy.

If you are tired of the anonymous "luxury" of 5-star hotels this is the alternative! This hotel has charm (ok, from last century) and a personal touch difficult to find nowadays. You immediately feel like being part of a large family, not only through the friendly hotel staff but also through the other guests. Here you really can find the much quoted 'discerning' travelers, friendly, open-minded and enjoying themselves.

In high season you may get one of the 'modern' rooms, which are perfectly clean but a bit on the Spartan side. But you won't spend much time in your room with the famous bar downstairs (free WLAN, but make sure your battery is good, sockets are sparse), anyway. Mosquitoes can be a bit of a problem, so bring some deterrent if you believe in it.

We loved staying here. It is an old hotel with a great deal of charm and character. The location was good. The room was large. The staff was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay here. And, they provide airport transportation for a reasonable price.
