Close by is the town of Kempten with its Residence of the Counts where the imposing coronation hall is of particular note. The Straßenmarkt has many pretty patrician houses along its length and from the Burghalde there are magnificent views over the city to the Allgäu Alps. In Memmingen the St. Martin church is a masterpiece of gothic architecture with its choir stalls from the early 16th Century. The monastery of Ottobeuron is a magnificent baroque building with the famous choir organ built by Karl Joseph Riepp. The monastery is also renowned for the Gregorian chant of the monks. The Danube Cycle Path and the Swabia-Allgau path give plenty of opportunity for an active stay in Swabia. The Autobahns A7, A8, A96 and A980 all lead to Swabia.
