In and around Swabia

Schwabia is a region in the south west of Bavaria which stretches from the Ries to Allgäu. With the Allgäu, Lechfeld and the Swabian Danube Marshes the region of Swabia has many varied holiday areas with countless comfortable hotels. Should you book a hotel in Augsburg you will find yourself in a city with a turbulent 2,000 year history. There are many typical hotels along the Maximilianstraße which is the most elegant street in Augsburg. In the Maximilian Museum the visitor can find out about the history and tradition of hand work in the area. The Fuggerhaus with its Ladies‘ Courtyard is also worth a visit whilst in the city.

Close by is the town of Kempten with its Residence of the Counts where the imposing coronation hall is of particular note. The Straßenmarkt has many pretty patrician houses along its length and from the Burghalde there are magnificent views over the city to the Allgäu Alps. In Memmingen the St. Martin church is a masterpiece of gothic architecture with its choir stalls from the early 16th Century. The monastery of Ottobeuron is a magnificent baroque building with the famous choir organ built by Karl Joseph Riepp. The monastery is also renowned for the Gregorian chant of the monks. The Danube Cycle Path and the Swabia-Allgau path give plenty of opportunity for an active stay in Swabia. The Autobahns A7, A8, A96 and A980 all lead to Swabia.
