Should you book a hotel near Salzburg you will find a vast choice of excursions in and around the Mozart city. The area known as Rupertiwinkel is especially well known. The town has a museum devoted to the mining of salt which is to be found throughout the area. Indeed some of the mines, still in operation today, can be visited. The monastery of Zeno has a magnificaent portal of marble from the Untersberg and a baptismal font. A cable car will take you to the summit of the Predigtstuhl with its wonderful view over Salzburg and the surrounding countryside.

The marble grave of the local counts is in the church and a visit to the local museum is also worthwhile as it contains many beautiful woodcarvings done by Bavarian carvers. Freilassing is directly on the frontier with Salzburg and one of its attractions is the “Lokwelt Freilassing” where the history of the railway for 150 years is explained in an old locomotive round house. Tourism is the main industry of the Salzburg region and the famous Mozartkugeln of the Bad Reichenhall company Reber have become known throughout the world.
