Berchtesgaden has a number of charming traditional hotels and is a typical alpine town. The marble grave of the local counts is in the church and a visit to the local museum is also worthwhile as it contains many beautiful woodcarvings done by Bavarian carvers. Freilassing is directly on the frontier with Salzburg and one of its attractions is the “Lokwelt Freilassing” where the history of the railway for 150 years is explained in an old locomotive round house. Tourism is the main industry of the Salzburg region and the famous Mozartkugeln of the Bad Reichenhall company Reber have become known throughout the world. The area can be reached along the main roads B20 and B304.
