Portuense is a family run budget hotel in downtown Lisbon. It is a few minutes walking distance from Restauradores and Rossio.

The road is replenished with a heavy mix of restaurants. One may endulge in a variety of seafood, meat or even chicken dishes accompanied by some of the best Port wines. Why not also try the famous Ginjinha? Follow the trail of this important street and you may find yourself watching a famous play at the Coliseu dos Recreios or at the Politeama Theatre. You may also encounter a French Community Chapel (Igreja São Luís dos franceses).

The establishment has 36 rooms, ranging from single to family rooms. They all have private bathroom, air conditioning, heating, TV and telephone.

Good friendly staff

Poor breakfast. Rooms very basic. No bath or sink plug so could not have a bath. I think they want to save water!!!

Perfect stay at Pousada Portuense. Everytime I'm in Lisbon, that is where I'm staying at. I simply feel at home there.

The staff is great! We had to leave at 6:30 am to the airport and they called us a taxi and also let us have breakfast which didn't start until 8am. Location is great as well. Clean and simple accomidation, great value for 1-2 nights.

Perfect location for the city, yet quiet. At most 200m away.

Not really negative, but breakfast could have been a little more comprehensive.

Very well located to old town area with easy walking access to buses, trams and trains. Friendly staff who spoke good English. Breakfast very basic. No tea and coffee making facility in room but available in breakfast room

Very hard beds. We had a triple room and 1 bed was acceptable but the other ones were very hard and uncomfortable.

I've never seen the point of paying $50 extra for chocolates on the pillows. The Pensao Residencial Portuense had a quiet room, a comfortable bed, very helpful staff, and all the necessities for a very reasonable price. I don't need any more than that.

The continental breakfast (as others have noted) is extremely basic: bread (with a choice of spreads), coffee, orange juice, and water. The bread is good, but still it gets old when you're there for four days as I was. There's free wifi, but it's only available from the ground floor, not in the rooms.

The only thing preventing a rating of 1 for cleanliness was a rather grubby quilt. A quilt cover would have been ideal. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the room rate was affordable for a single.

Having a top floor room there was noise from the elevator but the hotel location itself is quiet. There are drug pushers, tramps and pickpockets operating in this area of the city so be prepared!

This hotel was a great find! I was impressed with the cleanliness and convenience of location. The friendly staff were particularly helpful! There was very little street noise, despite being a block away from a major street. Breakfast was simple but good. I'll definitely stay here again next time I return to Lisbon.

The owners/staff are extremely helpful and friendly -- they made our stay very enjoyable! The property is kept very clean and tidy. The price and location also made this an attractive choice. The hotel is located within walking distance from many important sites, and is very close to all transit options (bus/metro/train).

The hotel is basically a step up from a hostel, with rooms that have private baths. Accommodation is very basic, there are no toiletteries (other than soap) or hair dryer, and the tv cable offered only Portuguese channels.
