Staff was very friendly, especially at breakfast. Room was nice and quiet.

Hotel got new flat screen TVs, new Channels including HD and Sky 1. Hotel is downtown/city center, Essen hardly offers any really decent hotels

Not enough staff at breakfast, long waiting times to get a coffee, waited 5 min, still no utensils at my desk. No gym inside the hotel, hotel partners with a gym facility about 5 min+ walk outside.

a no-nonsense good value hotel. I have stayed there three times now and it has actually improved.

possibly a little TOO unadorned in some parts, e.g. corridors (though in principle I am in favour of plainness). The bedhead was rather extravagant in style, but that is a tiny detail.

Nice hotel, but expensive. Modern, clean, attractive room. However, the air conditioning did not work and the staff was not very helpful when I told them that was the case.
