Hildesheim is a city in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located in the district of Hildesheim, about 30 km/18.5 miles southeast of Hanover on the banks of the Innerste river, which is a small tributary of the Leine river. It is dubbed the secret cultural capital of Lower Saxony.
Hildesheim provides for a wide range of hotels and guest houses. Having been an episcopal city since the early Middle Ages, Hildesheim is still famous for its Romanesque churches.
