Highfield House Hotel

I asked specifically for a non-smoking room. Thr room we were given smelt of stale smoke and after two days in the room all our clothing and belongings had taken on the same smell. when i spoke to reception the girl on the desk did not understand due to limited english and simply walked away from the desk

Our room (3) was above a private wedding function and the noise was so bad we might as well have been in the same room. We phone reception at 23.15 pm and they said they were unable to move us, and said the music would stop in 20mins. 1 hour later it stopped, and then the hoovering started. so we were unable to go to sleep until about 1am. If we had not already had a drink we would have checked out that night a driven home. When speaking to recepection in the morning about the fact we paid for a room for the night but only got half a nights sleep we got no reasonable reply as she could not speak english properly. While i understand the venue underneath is not part of the hotel. at NO time were we informed that there could be noise. and i believe some of the guest from the wedding were staing at the hotel, so it would of been better to have put them in that room. We are attending a wedding in Southampton next year and i most certainly wont stay there, or recommend it to anyone else.
