Hotel description Grims Dyke Hotel

A world away from the tumult that is London, yet only twelve miles from the bright lights of the West End, and just eight miles from Heathrow airport. This 4 star hotel is easily accessible as it is situated close to junction 5 of the M1. This magnificent Victorian building is the former residence of Sir William Gilbert, the writing half of the Gilbert and Sullivan partnership. The hotel and grounds have been used as a backdrop for many famous feature films and TV programmes. The beauty of this historic country house against the backdrop of the luxuriant and peaceful gardens and woodlands that surround it create an oasis. This beautiful hotel is the ideal place for a relaxing and peaceful stay for holidaymakers and business travellers alike. Old fashioned values combine with modern day comforts; comfortable beds, well appointed en suite bathrooms and rooms which are individually designed in the country house style, all with magnificent views over the surrounding parkland. Of the 46 bedrooms at Grims Dyke nine luxurious rooms and suites can be found in the main house and a further 37 high quality rooms are housed in a seperate lodge, two of which have facilities for the disabled. The lodge is merely yards from the entrance to the main house and offers the same sense of peace and tranquility as it is surrounded by trees and overlooks the gardens. Facilities include Multi Satellite TV channels, Business Services include Direct Dial telephones, Typing, Copying and Faxing service. Through the great panelled doors off the grand entrance hall you will find the Library Bar. This was the library where Gilbert wrote some of his most well known works, a huge fireplace once stood in place of the bar, which still features the copper surround Gilbert had installed. This peaceful room looks out onto the croquet lawn, terrace and gardens. Please note it is advisable to pre-book for dinner in the restaurant

June 2007
Beautiful grounds, very quiet. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Quirky

Some of the staff could have been a little more communicative. Public areas needed a thorough clean - carpet edges sink sealant. Not easy to get to without a car
