Würzburg is the centre of the region’s wine making industry but also is a charming city on the banks of the river Main with interesting alleys and beautiful buildings. The Residenz on the square of the same name was designed by Balthasar Neumann, a famous architect of the baroque style. Here it is possible to see the largest ceiling painting in the world. The Martin-von-Wagner-Museum contains works from the famous woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider and statues from Greek and Roman times. Standing on the old bridge across the river Main there is an excellent view towards the city. The modern Congress Centre is very popular for meetings and conferences.
To reach the region there is easy access along the motorways A3, A9 or A72, as well as via the airports in Hof, Bamberg or Nuremberg. Famous firms such as Adidas, Grundig, Faber Castell and Playmobil all have their base in Franconia.
