In and around East-Westfalia

East Westfalia is in the Detmold administrative district of North Rhine Westfalia. The centre of Detmold is the Schossplatz with the castle in the so called Weser renaissance style with its magnificent Kings‘ Halls and the valuable tapestries hanging in them. The Lippisch State Museum has a wide spectrum of exhibits to interest the visitor.

The cathedral in Minden is very well worth a visit should you stay in the area as it has particularly large tracery windows and an altar screen created by Gerd van Loen in 1480. The Minden town hall is the oldest in the region and has interesting arcades. In the Minden Museum the guest will find a great deal of information about the growth, roasting and use of coffee, the favourite drink of the Germans.

The cathedral in Paderborn is dedicated to St. Maria, St. Liborius and St. Kilian and from the 94 meter high tower there is a good view over the town and maybe even your hotel. The Paradise Door is richly decotated with figures in the Roman style. The Diocesan Museum has a Madonna dating from the 11th Century and unusual portable altars from the 12th Century. It is very easy to reach your hotel in East Westfalia via the Autobahns A2, A30 and A44. The main economic activities of the area are machine building, the IT industry and food production.
