In and around Department Tarn

The Département Tarn is in southern France in the Region Midi-Pyrénées. Albi is famous for the cathedral of Ste-Cécile which was dedicated in 1480 and is a fine example of the gothic style built in brick. The Palais de la Berbie was once the residence of the archbishops. The Musée Toulouse-Lautrec is one of the most visited in France and covers his life from his birth in Albi in 1864. The Pont Vieux offers a good view over the town.

Cordes is a medieval town founded by the Counts of Toulouise in the 13th Century and contains many examples of gothic buildings. Castres has the Musée Goya in the former bishops‘ palace with exhibits covering his life and works.

A popular destination is the Cap` Découverte in Carmaux. This is a former open-cast coal mine which has been transformed into a leisure and history park. The „Park of the Titans has some massive exhibits showing the machinery used in the industry. There are many alternatives available in Tarn for the more active visitor. Wine production and agriculture are the main economic activities. The Route National 88 between Toulouse and Lyon passes through the area.
