Location
Even in a state known for big things, Houston is an exceptionally big city. Named after the legendary Sam Houston, this is the fourth largest city in the United States and an amazing place to visit on business or for pleasure. Second only to New York City for hosting the headquarters of Fortune 500 companies, Houston has a strong, diverse economy. Home to major operations of five of the six supermajor energy producers, Houston is considered by some to be the energy capital of the world. As if this international notoriety werent enough, Houston is also home to the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions. Houston has been tied to the American space program from the early days of manned space flight. Opened in 1963, the Johnson Space Center continues today as the nations focal point for space exploration. The Center is also a wonderful tourist destination offering museums, movie theaters and even the opportunity to learn what it is like to live in space. For a somewhat more traditional tourist experience, join the nearly seven million culture-seekers who annually visit Houstons Museum District. Here you will find the Museum of Fine Arts, featuring classic art, a sculpture garden and the Bayou Bend exhibit of uniquely American art. For the lover of non-traditional art, there is the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. This is not only a fun place to visit, but it also provides free admission. The Museum District is also home to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Located in Herman Park, this museum has plenty to experience, including a planetarium, IMAX Theater and even a butterfly center. While you are in Herman Park, be sure to stop by the Houston Zoo. With over 4,500 permanent wildlife residents, you are sure to see something new and exciting. With eight full size municipal courses,Houston is also a great golf city, called Houstons best golfing value,Sharpstown Park Golf Course might be a good place to start.
