April 2009
The hotel's location (not usably shown on the map) was very fine -- a little outside the tourist center, but therefore quieter, and still walking distance to the port, the medina, etc. The hotel itself was actually more impressive than I had expected -- huge, well furnished lobby, enormous dining room for an elaborate breakfast. The reception staff was somewhat stiff, but they are probably overworked with the constant flow of tour groups. I was very pleased with the friendly, accommodating housekeeping staff. They went out of their way to make my stay pleasant, greeting me with smiles, making sure I had everything I needed, observing my routines to be sure not to disturb my naps -- I hope I overtipped them properly when I left.

My room was small and no view whatever -- windows on an airshaft. However, it suited me very well -- I was traveling alone and wanted a quiet room away from the considerable street noise. There was a lack of tourist-friendly information at the desk, perhaps because they cater to groups who do their own orientation for their clients.
