| The Ueckermund Heath forms the northern extent of the region of Uckermark and stretches as far as the Stettin haff. The idyllic landscape of woods and open heathland has many comfortable hotels where a stay is always relaxing. The history of Torgelow is long and this can be seen in the ruins of the iron works which were founded by Frederick the Great in 1754. Another interesting piece of history is the „Ukranenland“, which is a reconstruction of a slavic handworkers‘ settlement from the 10th Century. The open air museum of „Castrum Turglowe“ illustrates the way of life of people from the 13th Century. The interesting church in Torgelow is built in the expressionist style and impresses the visitor with a modern depiction of the crucifixion by Hubert Schöllgens.
