Hotel Marchese D'Altavilla is situated in a lush garden in the historical town of Tropea. The surrounding garden, with its many trees, hedges and hanging vines refreshes the rooms, eliminating the need for air-conditioning.

One of Tropea's most important historical sites is the Portus Ercolis which has been mentioned in the writings of Strabone and Plinius. It is a short distance from the ancient Roman settlement of Capo Vaticano which has been described in the writings of Cicero.
