Sala Giambologna (mt. 7,00 x mt. 16,00) Almost like an open air meeting room: this is the sensation experienced in the luminous Sala Giambologna, thanks to its large French window and numerous other windows. There is also a beautiful view of the Florentine Hills. The hall can, of course, be darkened in order to guarantee perfect viewing during slide and film presentations. Equipped with an amplification System. Marble flooring. Theatre style capacity: 100 seats. | Centre of Florence 12 kms. The main art and culture spots in Florence: The Duomo, The Baptistry, The Academy, Church Santa Maria Novella, Piazza della Signoria, The Medici Chapels, Uffizi Museum. VILLA DEMIDOFF E PRATOLINO PARK : 2 km In the territory of Vaglia is situated one of the most celebrated but at the same time unlucky countryside residence of Medici: The Villa di Pratolino. The Villa Demidoff park at Pratolino is located about fifteen kilometres north of Florence, along the N 65 at the La Futa pass. The building, created by Buontalenti, has a sober spatial planning based on three buildings without courtyard. It was located on a sort of basis, which should have included the caves, but it did not have the exceptional features that the park has. Grand Duke Francesco I de' Medici bought it in 1569 and then commissioned Ferdinando Buontalenti to design the villa that was unfortunately destroyed some time later. Little remains of the complex built by Buontalenti for Francesco I de' Medici as the fabulous residence for his beloved Bianca Cappello. Nowadays Villa Demidoff is famous above all for its immense park (over thirty hectares crossed by various well-marked routes). The park was sold to the Lorena family and to the Russian prince Demidoff, whom we have to thank for restoring the park and transforming the former paggeria into what is now the villa. The colossal 'Apennine', a cyclopic sculpture rising from a lake, by Giambologna, the flight of steps with the fountain of the god Pan, and Buontalenri's octagonal chapel are some of what remains of the sixteenth-century layout. |
