| If you book a stay on lake Plau then you will find yourself in Mecklenburg Vorpommern in the county of Parchim. The lake is the third largest in the Mecklenburg Lake District and is 14 kilometers long. The river Elbe flows through the lake and there are also direct connections to the lakes Kölpinsee, Fleesensee and Müritz. Many guests to the lake Plau area take the opportunity to make boat trips, play golf, go bowling and fishing and take pleasant horse rides through the countryside.
Plau am See has many hotels and the old town centre is a historic protected area with the oldest building being the church of St. Marien. Dutch influences can be identified in the Town Hall with its small clock tower whilst from the castle a good view is to be had over the old town and the lake. The Elde Promenade past the idyllic harbour to the lake itself is a popular walk. The Burgmuseum gives the visitor the opportunity to enter a dungeon 11 meters below ground as well as seeing an old church tower clock from the 16th Century. The Plau bath tub rally in June gives great pleasure to guests and visitors alike.
The valley of the kingfishers near Stuer should be visited and the really active may like to propel themselves along a closed railway line on a maintenance trolley from Karow to Borkow.
