| A stay in the region of the Kurhessen Bergland will take you to the charming upland area in the north of Hessen. Many of the old half timbered houses of the area have been converted into charming hotels. Should you visit Homberg the church of St. Marien should be visited as it was used for a meeting of the synod in 1526 which brought the gospels to Hessen. The church has a nickname of „The refomation church of Hessen“. Visitors to the church can wonder at the unusual Way of the Cross with only seven stations. Many people also visit the Wedding House to see the local museum dealing with the history of the town.
Fritzlar is enclosed by a totally intact town wall and the cathedral of St. Petri towers over the the old buildings. Alsfeld is one of the most picturesque towns in the region and has gained the reputation as being one of the leading towns in Europe in terms of restoration. Of particular note are the late gothic Town Hall and the Wine house with its stepped gable whilst in the Rittergasse there is an interesting museum about the Kurhessen Bergland.
There are a multitude of leisure activities on offer such as the 500 kilometer cycle path, the golf course in Oberaula or cross country skiing during the winter on the Knüllgebirge. During the summer the Borken lake district proves to be ever popular.
