Kelsterbach is a town in the Groß-Gerau district in Hesse, Germany. It is located on Frankfurt's southwestern outskirts at a bend on the left bank of the river Main, right where a small brook, called the Kelster (-bach in Kelsterbach being the German word for brook) empties into the river.
It is a small town with an area of 15.38 km²/5.9 miles², which lies 107 meter/117 yards above sea level. The town is split into the districts Unterdorf, with the city centre, and Oberdorf, the larger area of settlement.
Kelsterbach is an archaeological repository for discoveries dating from the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Archaeologists found the oldest skull of a Stone Age man, microliths and ceramics (all Stone Age) here. These beautiful discoveries are exhibited in museums in Frankfurt am Main.
