| The Département Lot-et-Garonne is in south west France in the Region Aquitaine. Agen, the main town is situated in the middle of the fertile plain between the rivers Lot and Garonne. The quaint alleyways and narrow streets of the old town are interesting to explore and the aqueduct is also an attraction. The Town Museum contains works by Goya and Boudin. The major exhibit is a marble statue of the Greek goddess Venus which dates from pre-Christian times. This statue was discovered by a farmer towards the end of the 19th Century.
Villeneuve-sur-Lot has the intersesting church of St-Katherina with the windows in the original construction dating from the 13th Century. During your visit you may also wish to see the Chapel du Bout du Pont which juts out perilously over the river Lot and is the sight of the town.
Penne-d`Agenais is a dream with its winding quaint alleys and the ruins of Richard the Lionheart‘s castle above the town. The pilgrimage church of Notre-Dame de Peyragude is also there. The castle of Pomarède towers over the roofs of Moncrabeau and an interesting walk is along the liars‘ way! There are many boards with all sorts of untruths and the reader has to decide which is true or false. There is even the Liar’s Throne carved in stone which serves as the starting point for an unusual untrue stories competition.
