Filderstadt is a town in the district of Esslingen, in Baden-Württemberg. It is located approximately 13 km / 8 miles south of Stuttgart.
Filderstadt was founded as late as 1975 within the scope of a municipality reform. It then already had 20,000 inhabitants and has only one year later been declared county town.
The close proximity to Stuttgart is an advantage for Filderstadt in many ways. Especially the airport of Baden-Württemberg’s capital Stuttgart only being a few kilometres/miles away enhances the development of Filderstadt. Being near to Stuttgart has also proved advantageous for Filderstadt’s hotels. These hotels, often belonging to large chains, have adapted optimally to the needs of business travellers.
The runways of Stuttgart’s airport even reach into the Filderstadt area. 70 logistics companies are resident in the local aeronautic centre.
The largest companies in Filderstadt are labels manufacturer Herma, air-conditioning company Modine and TÜV Süd (MOT South).
The autobahn A8 passes Filderstadt, while the federal highways B27 and B312 go right through the city.
When arriving at Stuttgart central station you may take a suburban train to Filderstadt. Within the city there are several bus lines that will bring you from the station or the airport to your Filderstadt hotel.
We recommend you to visit the Gottlob Häussler Museum of Local History which grants an insight into the everyday life of the Filderstadt townsfolk during the last centuries.
You should see some of the churches in the region, especially the Jakobus Kirche in the district Bernhausen, which was built of gothic as well as baroque parts. You may also enjoy the town hall of Bernahusen, a half-timbered building which was built in the 17th century. The hotels of Filderstadt’s inner city are all only a few minutes walk away.
At the fairground “Neue Landesmesse“ there are several events taking place throughout the year, mainly held by medium sized companies.
