London, 09. December 2010 – 2010 is drawing to a close but travel and travel planning still continue at the same level regardless of the temperatures at this time of the year. Whilst some are actually travelling on business the others may be making a spontaneous decision to take a short winter break or are already planning their hotel needs for next year.
But which cities currently have high hotel prices and which others still offer affordable rates? hotel.info, the free online hotel reservation service with more than 210,000 hotels worldwide, has once more cast its eye on hotel rates at the end of the year.

The latest results show that:
Major international cities are increasing prices considerably at more than 7%
New York City has the highest price level compared internationally with Prague and Bangkok which have attractively low overnight rates
London is amongst the five most expensive very large cities

New York is the most expensive hotel city – this is shown by the hotel room rate comparison made by hotel.info amongst the major international cities. More than 200 Euros per night has to be paid by hotel guests in the „Big Apple“. There is no challenger to New York for the first place in the listing. Hotel room rates are also increasing in Moscow. With 160 Euros in November and even 180 Euros in October the cost of staying in the capital city of the Russian Federation was not exactly cheap. In Oslo hoteliers demanded just under 160 Euros per night. This made the Norwegian capital the third most expensive metropolis. Hotel guests also needed deep pockets in London. At 150 Euros per night the city also belongs with the most expensive major conurbations for hotels.
Hotel guests had to pay much less in many major eastern European cities. Once again three eastern European capital cities are within the lowest price segment for hotel overnights. The Czech capital Prague is very attractive with only 65 Euros per room per night. However the hotel room prices in Bangkok were the most reasonable. The Thai capital offered rooms at just 55 Euros.
Whilst hotels in cities such as New York, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro or Amsterdam increased their room prices by more than 20 %, the rates in other major cities decreased in comparison with the same period in the previous year. However, in Sydney, Copenhagen or Bucharest room rates fell considerably seriously effecting their total turnover.
The average increase in the major cities studied during November 2010 was 7% compared with November last year.
