The hotel.info Hotel Price Barometer shows where hotel prices sit today*

London, 25 September 2011 – Whilst stock markets are experiencing turbulence and growth forecasts are being reconsidered, hotel prices in European capitals are rising considerably. Overnight rates have increased, despite hoteliers offering discounted rates as seen on hotel.info, the free online hotel reservation service with more than 210,000 hotels worldwide:

  • London and Oslo prove more expensive than Madrid and Berlin
  • New York is the most expensive city in the world
  • London hotels are getting more expensive


The results of the hotel.info hotel price barometer show that New York is the most expensive capital city in the world, whilst Oslo leads amongst European capital cities. Additionally, London hotels are becoming more expensive when compared to the same period in the previous year.

In Oslo, hotel room rates have increased by 14.02% making an overnight stay in the Norwegian capital the most expensive within Europe. Likewise, hotels in the Danish capital profited from the Copenhagen 2011 Triathlon KMD Challenge, with a huge 23.85% increase between August 2010 and August 2011, giving it the title of third most expensive European capital.

Not surprisingly, Moscow and London remain at the top of the table with a growth in average nightly rate of 17.58% to GBP128.37 and 12.74% to GBP124.27, respectively.

Amongst major international cities, New York continues its reign in first place, followed closely by Rio de Janeiro.

If you are looking for a more affordable getaway, then there’s no doubt that Berlin and Madrid are worthy options to consider.
